Cover contest

What better book to be designed by teenagers than Lord of the Flies! London-based publisher Faber and Faber asked British teen artists aged thirteen to sixteen to submit their cover designs for the new educational imprint of William Golding’s famed 1954 novel. The winner is titled “Into the Mouth of the Beast”. What do you think of it? Look at the others. Which one do you like best? Why? Write its name.

  1. We think the drawing chosen its the most original of all the ones that compited. It conteins all the details of the story.
The one we liked the most was the one of the glasess, it looks very real and its also original. Although we think the one they chose was the correct one.

  4. The decision is difficult because each drawing has a different and original meaning. But I think the first cover is the best because it includes a lot of color and represent the moments of the story. In my opinion, the pig’s head is the most important detail of the drawing. In fact, almost all the drawings included it, but in a different way. The pig’s head is part of the person’s body in the first cover. This symbolizes the join of the pig, considered by them as a monster (the evil of everyone) and the human actions.
The other drawing I like is the one of the glasses, because reminds me of Piggy’s death, and the savagery that was in each child at the moment of the murder. Anyway, I think all the covers are excellent.

  5. I really like the winner one, it has an amazing esthetic, but I would pefer the one called "Lord of the Flies" ( http://lordofthefliescover.com/comp/winner/390/#sticky ) cause it shows the power of the beast inside of us, over us. It represents, in my opinion, the main meaning of the book, the beast increasingly bigger and the people, the souls, more and more smaller.

  6. For me, an image that is very representative of the book is the one with the shirts hanging on a cord, becouse it shows how you become more and more savage, but I don't know the name of this image (http://lordofthefliescover.com/comp/entry/377/). Anyway, the esthetic of the winner is really good and can also represents every tiny part of our soul, which is in fact, the responsible for our savagery.

  7. I liked the first, is spectacular. has absolutely every detail of the film integrated into the same representation of a person. I found it great to use colors that way, and being boys from thirteen to sixteen years is a perfect production. congratulations!
